Dwarves are hefty for their height, weighing as much as, if not more than, a man, despite standing at a mere four to four and a half feet tall. They are rough and tough with thick skin and thicker skulls. They have dark eyes and tan skin. Their most noticeable feature, however, is their beards, which they take great care and pride in. Dwarves can live to be nearly four centuries old.
Dwarves rule enormous subterranean kingdoms, mining the gems and metals found there. The finest craftsmen and smiths in the world hail from these underground metropolises, which are marvels of art and technology in and of themselves. It is possible for a dwarf to live out all his days without ever once coming to the surface of the world, but dwarves can be found digging the earth in just about any place where there is treasure to be unearthed. Dwarves have established a healthy trade with the surface going Men.
The personality of a dwarf is just as hard as the stone he excavates. They are slow to laugh and slower to trust, keeping a wary eye on outsiders who wanders into their realm. They are, however, loyal to the core to those who have earned their trust, and are known to be tenacious fighters. A dwarf’s sense of justice is also rock solid, though their one weakness is a love for riches, and they are sometimes incorrigibly greedy.
