Freed Countries

The Freed Countries (also called the Freed Marches, or just the Marches) constitute a collection of large, independent territories that stretch from the Jalanta River in the west to its boarder with Narshé in the east. For the most part, these territories are wild, but there are pockets of secluded civilization to be found here. Once upon a time these countries were home to a majority of Elves in Nirvalin, but that was before the First Empire marched through, leaving in its wake the ruins of elven society, earning man kind the ancient race’s ire forever.

Ardimir’s Wake

Named for a famed northern general who conquered much of central Nirvalin, Ardimir’s Wake lays south of the forested country of the Green Lands and north of Batallia Bay. It is a flat land scared by ruins and remnants of forgotten battles from long ago.

Blue Lands

Darkwood

Known locally as simply “The Wood,” Darkwood is well known to be cursed. Dire wolves, lycanthropes, and witches are but a handful of the fiends this dreadful place is rumored to shelter. Despite the dangers that lurk within, Darkwood sees many adventurous types traveling through, due to its quick access to the northern kingdoms.

Green Lands

The Green Lands are a sparsely populated wooded country. Its forests and glades hide many ruins and caves, so it serves as a haven for fiends and runaways. The settlements here are small and isolated, and have no central power that rules them. Though they enjoy their freedom, relying solely on themselves for protection means that they are often targeted by bandits and goblins. The untouched wilderness shelters a number of fey or monstrous creature, such as satyrs and owlbears.

Glitterdale

Glitterdale was once a bustling mine town, full of Dwarves and marry men. Now, however, the prophets has run dry, and all the people left. It can hardly be called a town now, but there is one dwarf yet in Glitterdale who still draws breathe.

Iversten

Iversten is a sleepy town on the boarder of the the Green Lands and Ardimir’s Wake. The town’s major industry is the growing of apples (granny smith’s, not red delicious). It is the largest town in the Green Lands.

Vangaurd

Vanguard is the smallest settlement in the Green Lands, being little more than an inn and a handful of houses. The place nevertheless sees business from travelers who braves the journey north through the Darkwood.

North Vanguard

The territories of North and South Vanguard are called such because, when the First Empire made its conquest of central Nirvalin, these lands were the last to be settled, and thus were the closest to the front in the battles against the Elves. The Jalanta River on its western flank marks the boarder of Nirvalin into Kyrenthia, and the Green Lands contain it on its eastern edge.

North Vanguard is notable for its ruined fortresses, the enclave of the Knights of Lion’s Shield, the Wizard’s Ivory Tower, and the bridge Aethelmham.

South Vanguard

The territories of North and South Vanguard are called such because, when the First Empire made its conquest of central Nirvalin, these lands were the last to be settled, and thus were the closest to the front in the battles against the Elves. The Jalanta River on its western flank marks the boarder of Nirvalin into Kyrenthia, and the Green Lands contain it on its eastern edge.

South Vanguard is notable for its proximity to the Blue Lands, and the town of Pettleburg.

Pettleburg

Pettleburg is a decent settlement with decent folk who live there. Whereas settlements in the Green Lands have suffered a marked drop in residents (i.e. Glitterdale), Pettleburg has seen a population boom. The demand for cheap housing and work has resulted in the city’s rapid expansion.
